Expert Heating Solutions completed a specialist rainwater collection tank installation in Pimlico, Central London. The system includes one debris/leaves collection tank and three large storage tanks connected in series, serving an internal courtyard of a 1,600-apartment residential block.
Rainwater Collection Tank Installation in Pimlico, Central London
Expert Heating Solutions recently completed the first stage of a large-scale rainwater collection system in Pimlico, Central London.
This project was carried out inside a residential development with approximately 1,600 apartments, where rainwater from an internal courtyard needed to be collected, stored and safely discharged into an external drainage point capable of handling the additional load.
The installation shown here is the first of two identical collection rooms planned for the site.
Project Overview
The system was designed to collect rainwater from the surface of the internal courtyard and direct it through a 200mm HDPE pipework network. The pipework was installed using fusion-welded connections, providing a strong, reliable and long-lasting solution for this type of drainage and water management installation.
The rainwater first enters a dedicated collection tank designed to capture leaves, debris and other solids before the water continues into the main storage system.
From there, the water is transferred into three large storage tanks, each with an approximate capacity of 5,000–6,000 litres. These tanks are connected in series, allowing the collected rainwater to be stored and managed efficiently before being pumped away.
How the System Works
The installation includes:
- One primary debris/leaves collection tank
- Three large rainwater storage tanks connected in series
- 200mm HDPE pipework with fusion-welded joints
- A pumped discharge system using three pumps
- Pipe supports, valves, flanges and isolation points for servicing and maintenance
- Connection to an external drainage system designed to accept the additional water load
Once the rainwater is collected and stored, the system pumps it into an external drain. This helps control water movement from the courtyard area and reduces the risk of uncontrolled surface water build-up during heavy rainfall.
Why This Rainwater Collection Tank Installation in London Was Needed
This rainwater collection tank installation in Pimlico, Central London was required to manage surface water collected from the internal courtyard of a large residential development. With approximately 1,600 apartments on site, the system needed to be robust, efficient and capable of handling significant volumes of rainwater during periods of heavy rainfall.
By directing the water through a dedicated debris/leaves tank first, the system helps separate leaves and other materials before the water reaches the three main storage tanks. This improves the overall performance of the installation and supports easier long-term maintenance.
Built for a Large Residential Development
Because this project serves a major residential block in Central London, the installation required careful planning, robust materials and clean execution.
The plant room layout had to allow enough space for future access, servicing and inspection. Each tank connection, valve and pipe route was positioned to support practical maintenance while keeping the system efficient and organised.
The use of HDPE pipework was especially important for this type of project because it provides durability, strength and reliable performance in water management systems.
Professional Installation by EHS
This Pimlico project reflects the type of technical installation work carried out by Expert Heating Solutions across London and the South East.
From the large-diameter HDPE pipework to the tank connections, pump system and final layout, every stage was completed with attention to detail and a focus on long-term reliability.
The first collection room is now installed, with a second matching room planned for the same development.
